I’ll admit, this has been a long time coming. I’ve wanted to do this for the better part of 3 years now, but the last time I seriously considered it, I was not in a position to carry out the necessary actions.
Last week though, I finally made the decision to migrate this website off of WordPress.com, and to a new host. At this point in time, Wp com is just not cutting it in terms of features I am increasingly finding essential.
If I wanted a close resemblance to the feature set I want now, I’d be paying $25 per month for the wordpress.com business plan, and even then I’d only be getting plug-ins and not my own server space to host games and stream from my own domain.
(NVGT.gg is the domain I stream from currently, and that is owned by a couple friends of mine who are generous enough to allow me to use their server for streaming).
I have already begun the migration process to digital ocean. The new site already has a fresh install of Word Press, complete with all my content. Thankfully, I did not go through the nightmare I anticipated, which is to say updating all the permalinks to every media file I’ve uploaded and linked to. All that needs to be done is transferring the domain, which is the main reason I posted this.
Transferring the domain will, in all likelihood , cause the website to be less than 100 percent functional for a few days, meaning you may not be able to access it. I’m planning to begin the transfer tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.
One last thing: it may end up that I won’t be able to migrate all my followers to the new install. I have accrued several hundred of you through the years, so I’ll do my best to insure that I can move you to the new site. I know that the Jet pack plug-in will allow me to do this, but the only problem that may arise is that it might need to be installed on *this site as well, which I can’t do without the business plan. Either way, I’ll let you all know the results after I’ve fully migrated the site.
Here’s hoping it all goes smoothely!
