Hello there, thanks for taking the time to check out my classes! At the time of this writing, I offer classes in one subject: creating accessible computer games for the blind and visually impaired. I hope to expand my offerings with time.

NVGT Class description
I am offering to teach game development with the programming/scripting language, NVGT at an affordable cost. At this time, one-hour sessions cost twenty one dollars and fifty cents, while two-hour sessions are thirty seven dollars. For people who are just starting out, I offer a single one-hour assessment and trial lesson, free of charge.
Classes cover subjects ranging from the basic concepts of programming and tooling, to more advanced topics about game design and object oriented programming. That said, you have the benefit of a one-on-one session. This means that while we follow a general curriculum, your classes will be tailored to your personal learning goals. This setting insures that you have the undivided attention of an instructor throughout your entire lesson, and we can focus on topics of greater interest to you. I recognize that everyone learns differently, and will do my absolute best to meet you where you are.
Why is it worth booking classes with me?
I have developed one of the most popular accessible games in audio gaming history: Scramble. With over 3 years of professional experience teaching assistive technology to visually impaired individuals in Texas and Arizona with a high success rate, I can promise high quality, efficient, and effective lessons tailored to your current experience level and the way you learn. With a fun, easy going and accommodating personality, I can promise a positive, engaging, and stress free learning environment that will keep our lessons interesting! I take your needs seriously. In addition to our individualized lessons, you will receive a feedback form after each session. This form will allow you to give your honest feedback about how class is going, and let me know if there is anything I can do to serve you better. You are never penalized for any of your answers, and this is a good way to hold your instructor accountable.
And as to the subject matter? I have developed and released two audio games myself, including Scramble, a highly addictive arcade-style game which is still enjoyed by numerous blind gamers!
Programming has been a hobby of mine for a little over 10 years now just as a start and, while I am mostly self-taught, have attended 2 years of college computer science classes to further my general programming knowledge. I’ve also been interested in game design for many years. Being an avid audio gamer myself, I can help steer anyone newer to the field towards design decisions that would be appreciated by a target audience should that be desired. And finally, I am recommended by the creator of NVGT and am closely connected to the projects development having used the engine since before it was officially released. I can teach you the latest and most recommended methods, APIs, and development strategies relating to the toolkit.
Rather than spending long dull hours reading dry programming manuals and documentation constantly wondering what small steps you might have missed along the way, I hope you might instead consider a more friendly, timely, engaging, and enjoyable method of learning NVGT. Book your free assessment today. I’d love to meet you!
What are you comfortable teaching, and what are your weak areas?
While I am able to teach game creation with NVGT, there are areas I am currently better at teaching than others. Below is a general breakdown, though this is subject to change. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are still unsure whether my classes will meet your needs.
Strengths
- Basic concepts of programming
- Coding practices and organization
- Sound management
- Data and asset management
- User Interfaces
- Game design principles
- offline game development
Weak areas
- Networking
- Advanced 3d mathematics and physics
- Low level engine manipulation (modifying the c++ codebase of NVGT)
- Creating plugins for the engine
- Advanced/alternative encryption methods not incorporated into the engine already
What is included when I purchase a lesson?
- Individualized lessons. A one on one class that is tailored to your specific learning needs and goals.
- Recordings. Permanent access to class recordings. I will record our classes for your benefit, and share them with you, and you get to keep those forever. Please don’t share them though.
- Classwork. Custom exercises and homework assignments designed to challenge you, and reinforce concepts learned in the lessons.
- Class materials. Permanent access to all class exercises, notes, handouts, and homework assignments with any corrections made by, or with help from, the instructor. That class folder is yours!
- Follow up questions. If you do not book any more lessons, you will still get a week of support following the lesson you just had, where you are guaranteed answers to your questions if you send them to me. If you choose to continue booking lessons, you can ask and get answers any time during our teaching relationship.
- No lock-ins. Ever. Stop booking classes at any time! When you book a lesson, that lesson is all you are committing to. You are not required to book any further lessons after that though of course, I hope you will!

What will the Process Look Like if I Book My Assessment?
-
Assessment: As stated above, new students are offered a one-hour assessment session free of charge. During this session, you will be asked about where you are in your learning process, your learning goals, and desired outcomes for the class. You will also be provided a brief lesson to help you become familiar with how classes will go should you wish to proceed.
-
Post-assessment: upon completing your assessment, you will receive a follow-up email containing a feedback survey, and a link to book your first class session. You can choose to book up to three weeks from the day you are placing the booking.
-
First and subsequent classes: We will meet on Zoom at the designated time for our lesson. After each class, you will receive an email. This contains a feedback survey, where you can tell me how class is going and whether or not you feel it is helping you, as well as how I can improve as your instructor. Please be honest! Also in that email, you’ll find the link to book your next lesson with me!
Before you get started, please read the Booking and Cancelation Policy, as well as the Rules and Professionalism Agreement. By taking lessons with me, you are agreeing to both of these policies.
